Domain shuffling and the increasing complexity of biological networks.Sandro J. de Souza - 2012 - Bioessays 34 (8):655-657.
Graphical AbstractDomains can spread among proteins in a process called domain shuffling and this has been identified as one of the major mechanisms leading to the formation of new proteins throughout evolution. This process has an impact on the topology of protein-protein interaction networks as it may create new hubs and also increase interconnectivity.

A Critical Edition of the Works by Gaston Bachelard.Marta Ples-Bęben - 2022 - Forum Philosophicum: International Journal for Philosophy 27 (2):273-279.
Works by Gaston Bachelard, both in the field of the philosophy of science and in the field of the philosophy of poetic imagination, were reissued in France many times. These reissues were unchanged reprints of the origi‐ nal editions, which were always very interesting in terms of content, but sometimes underdeveloped in terms of form. Obviously, this is not the most important aspect of these works, as we can undoubtedly agree with Jean‐Jacques Wunenburger. 1 Nevertheless, a disordered form, especially in (...)

    Celebrating J.N. Findlay’s contribution to philosophy: A comparative textual analysis from a Mahāyāna Buddhist perspective.Garth J. Mason - 2022 - HTS Theological Studies 78 (2):7.
J.N. Findlay was a South African philosopher who published from the late 1940s into the 1980s. He had a prestigious international academic career, holding many academic posts around the world. This article uses a textual comparative approach and focuses on Findlay’s Gifford Lecture at St Andrews University between 1965 and 1970. The objective of the article is to highlight the extent to which Findlay’s philosophical writings were influenced by Mahāyāna Buddhism. Although predominantly a Platonist, Findlay drew influence from Asian philosophy (...)

    The World as God's ‘body’: In Pursuit of Dialogue with Rāmānuja: J. J. LIPNER.J. J. Lipner - 1984 - Religious Studies 20 (1):145-161.
In this essay I propose to offer some observations in due course on how Christian thought and practice in general might profit from a central theme in the theology of Rāmānuja, a Tamil Vaisnava Brahmin whose traditional date straddles the eleventh and twelfth centuries of the Christian era. The central theme I have in mind is expressed in Rāmānuja's view that the ‘world’ is the ‘body’ of Brahman or God. We shall go on to explain what this means, but let (...)

    How to be an atheist and a sceptic too: response to McCreary: J. L. SCHELLENBERG.J. L. Schellenberg - 2010 - Religious Studies 46 (2):227-232.
Mark McCreary has argued that I cannot consistently advance both the hiddenness argument and certain arguments for religious scepticism found in my book The Wisdom to Doubt . This reaction was expected, and in WD I explained its shortsightedness in that context. First, I noted how in Part III of WD , where theism is addressed, my principal aim is not to prove atheism but to show theists that they are not immune from the scepticism defended in Parts I and (...)

(Bio)police.João Jânio da Silva Lira & Sandro Cozza Sayão - 2022 - Revista de Filosofia Moderna E Contemporânea 10 (1):271-279.
Foucault coined the term biopolitics when thinking about political philosophy, this concept designates a double path: a) anatomo-politics (regulation of bodies) and b) biopolitics of the population (massification of behaviors). Among these notions, the police emerges: a device that is an apparatus of discipline and a state apparatus and characterizes modern political rationality as a “political technology of doctors” between the 17th and 18th centuries (Classical Era). This work, therefore, focuses on investigating the notion of police in Foucault’s writings from (...)

The cosmological and ontological arguments: How saint Thomas solved the Kantian problem: J. William Forgie.J. William Forgie - 1995 - Religious Studies 31 (1):89-100.
Let us call the Dependency Theses the view, first stated by Kant, that certain versions of the cosmological argument depend on the ontological argument. At least two different reasons have been given for the supposed dependence. Given the DT, some of Aquinas' views about God's essence, and about our knowledge of God's existence, can seem, at least at first, to be inconsistent. I consider two different ways of defending Aquinas against this suspicion of inconsistency. On the first defence, based on (...)

'Epics years': The english revolution and J.G.A. Pocock's approach to the history of political thought.J. Davis - 2008 - History of Political Thought 29 (3):519-542.
J.G.A. Pocock has been a dominant force in the history of political thought since his first major work, The Ancient Constitution and the Feudal Law, was published in 1957. This article is focused on the contribution he has made to the study of the revolutions of seventeenth-century England and the extraordinary body of political discourse to which they gave rise. It begins with an examination of the ways in which ideas about continuity, innovation, institutions and historiography have shaped his approach (...)

    Identity and Identification: J. N. FINDLAY.J. N. Findlay - 1984 - Religious Studies 20 (1):55-62.
Professor Lewis and I have some important differences of opinion regarding the identity and distinctness of conscious persons, which it will be well to try to clarify on the present occasion, first of all by enumerating a number of points on which we are, I think, in agreement. Both of us believe in the existence of individual persons, each of whom can be said to live in a ‘world’ of his own intentional objectivity, a world ‘as it is for him’, (...)

    Religious Experience and Religious Diversity: A Reply to Alston: J. L. SCHELLENBERG.J. L. Schellenberg - 1994 - Religious Studies 30 (2):151-159.
William Alston's Perceiving God: The Epistemology of Religious Experience is a most significant contribution to the philosophy of religion. The product of 50 years' reflection on its topic , this work provides a very thorough explication and defence of what Alston calls the ‘mystical perceptual practice’ – the practice of forming beliefs about the Ultimate on the basis of putative ‘direct experiential awareness’ thereof . Alston argues, in particular, for the rationality of engaging in the Christian form of MP . (...)

    Belief-In Revisited: A Reply To Williams: J. J. MACINTOSH.J. J. Macintosh - 1994 - Religious Studies 30 (4):487-503.
In ‘Belief-In and Belief in God’ , J. N. Williams suggests that belief in God cannot be rational unless one has rational beliefs that God exists. While agreeing with his conclusion , I disagree at almost every step with his method of arriving at it. In particular I suggest that Williams goes astray concerning the dual aspect of belief in , the nature of performatives, the arousal of belief states, and the correct account of belief in God.
